Scott Certified Cultural District
YOU ARE INVITED
To Attend an Open Meeting
6 P.M. on Monday, June 13, 2016
At Scott City Hall
Ms Gaye Hamilton, who is the Cultural District Program Manager, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism,
will be available to explain the cultural district program, its benefits and responsibilities to
interested stakeholders-artists, business owners, residents, realtors, CD team members, civic and business organizations.
As arts and economic development continue to be linked, and several cities and states have already combined these two governmental departments,
the question of what those in the arts field get out of this relationship becomes more important.
The arts and culture communities are serving these cities in many beneficial ways - they contribute to urban revitalization,
economic development and artist centers. They provide cities with a better quality of life and allow them to brand themselves as
creative and cultured in order to promote tourism, attract new residents and encourage new businesses. . .
. . . much more on this which involves "you."
06/01/2016 Scott Business Association - A message from Chief
National studies have found that the frequency of fire appears to be substantially lower in cities that inspect all, or nearly all,
commercial buildings annually.
Studies also confirm that more than 25% of all businesses having major fire damage do not successfully re-open,
thus creating an economic hardship for the owners and communities, which they are located.
The Scott Fire Department has always attempted to provide quality emergency and non-emergency services to the citizens of Scott and surrounding areas.
In 2015 elected officials adopted the International Fire Code, in addition to creating and adopting local fire codes.
These actions formed a Certified National Fire Protection Association Prevention Division for the Scott Fire Department.
This division authorizes and requires Scott Fire Department to inspect all commercial properties. in relation to fire regulations.
The scope of these inspections is to identify and document obvious fire hazards and life safety issues, issue a notice requesting
that the condition be corrected as soon as possible. A re-inspection will be scheduled to confirm that the violation(s) has been corrected.
Non-compliance of requirements are subject to citation(s) and legal action.
In an effort to assure that properties are properly inspected, Scott Fire Department Inspector Edward Cazares,
recently completed the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program, at Louisiana State University,
becoming a National Fire Protection Association Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI-I).
Having an individual certified in fire Inspections and plan examinations will ensure that property is in compliance with Scott's Fire Code
and national safety standards. Statics prove this will lower fire loss to property, save lives, in addition to lower overall property insurance rates,
at no additional cost to the businesses or the citizens of Scott.
Please feel free to contact me if I can assist in this or any other matter>
